Hello VampireLycanthope,

Goth is a state of mind and not just clothes!
I know people who are goth only in their heads.

So as Daruma say: if you feel Goth is that you are!

Mes hommages.

Being goth is not just the way you dress yourself..
Is the way you see the world around you, the way you think..
Black clothes are just the way for you to feel good to yourself..
But some goths do not use only black.. So it depends on people..
Do not look to them as they are dressed.. Talk to them and try to understand them..

I don't wear Black all the time, wait for the most part I do. Yes I have experienced the Eliteists and such at clubs and such, but my clothing I wear out is in Victorian style or Romantic Gothic so I usually never get harrassed.

I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity

Goth is definitely more of a mind set then an outward appearance as far as I'm concerned. BUT no one can know your mind while it is very easy to abserve what you wear. Thus the sometimes rather strict mindsets as to what goths look like. In the aspect of classic styles of gothic dress for such an image to be identifiable I believe the wardrobe would contain components of a darker nature whether colors or images, or else takine a slightly futuristic slant depending on which sub genre you subscribe to. Thus color doesn't necessarily have to play a factor.

And that is my rather long winded opinion . . .

It wasn't long-winded :)
I guess as far as appearance is concerned it depends whether you want other people to know you're a goth. If you do then you're more likely to go for a more archetypal gothic look. Not because you feel you have to get attention or to look different, but because you're proud of the subculture you represent.
