There are some good books out there that explain the card meanings, the layouts, etc; you should be able to teach yourself with a couple of good books & a few friends who'll let you \"practice\" on them. : )

I would experiment with them a bit but I'm terrified of having anything to do with the Death card! I think it tempts fate a bit. But as with anything occult-ish, I believe in the right hands they can get genuine results.

teh death card can mean anything in a certain combination ...it can be good as well as bad...but it depends on what the other cards around it say....

I think tarot cards are not the most accurate method of predicting the future ... but sometimes effective...
