Let's talk about sex...
It seems weird to post this on a sex toys post, but I said I would put up a good picture of my husband if I could find one. Here is my whole family:
Ohh..You all look so happy and smiley!
:woohoo: I'm going to sound all gloomy now, because none of my family pictures are like that. I don't recall ever giving my parents any hugs etc..And we've never been told we're loved nor have we told our parents we love them. Uhh..It might just be a culture thing. Because some cultures encourage independence at a young age..There were a few psychological studies into it. I guess I feel a bit odd because most other UK families are also hugs-and-kisses.
Edit: Your daughter really takes after you! Everyone says I'm almost identical to my mother. >.< Eep. One of my mother's friends hadn't seen her since she was my age, and all she did was stare at me because apparently, I'm identical to my mother minus the school uniform.

In Australia sex ed isnt really taught until about Year 8 (first year of High School, 12-13 yrs of age). We do get some education in Primary School but its pretty basic. We dont have Family Planning? clinics here - we just see our GP's for things like that. I dont really recall seeing them in the city either - but that could be because I wasnt looking!!
My Dad was pretty open with everything and anything; being from Doncaster and having been in the Merchant Navy he's ah...pretty cosmopolitan ;P I just think he liked trying to make me blush. Mostly amongst my friends though we kind of just figured it out ourselves... we had some idea on safe sex and such and no one I know got pregnant before they were 18 so that was good.
We have one sex shop here and its recently relocated down the other end of town... unfortunately though they moved into an old shop with big glass windows - so you can see EVERYTHING and EVERYONE that goes in there. They have been smart though and separated it into two sections - the porn is \"out the back\" behind some big dividers which is really good... but heaven forbid your boss walks past and youre buying naughty undies lol... we've got the whole small town thing happening too so if you get spotted by someone you know everyones bound to know in a day or two Doesnt really bother me - just makes me laugh!
(and just while Im writing an essay ;P) We're legally allowed to get our Learners permit to drive at 16, at 17 you can drive un-accompanied, at 18 you can get your full licence and are legal for smoking and alcohol. Sex is 16 with concent but you'd better not get cause cause you can get into trouble, 16 is also marriage with permission and a special hearing by a judge (pretty rare though). We can only buy seriously hard core porn from the Australian Capital Teritory (where parliament sits - go figure ), and our games do not have a rating system, so anything that comes out with an 18+ rating on it has to be sensored in Australia. i.e. things like Killing Floor have all the dismemberment and gore removed. So thank smuck for the interwebs otherwise we'd never have any fun

And my web cam takes good pictures because I just got it after Christmas. And thanks, but some people swear she looks like her dad, and they have identical ears to each other. And my \"real\" hair color is similar to hers.
My family was never very touchy-huggy when I was a kid, but I am a touchy-huggy person myself, so that's how we are. Lucy is very independent, but I still like to hug her!
Nothing to see here, move along folks.

 Wow I had no idea things were so strict. I only had a rough idea about Australian laws from watching those TV shows where they film people going through customs to Aus..
Thank God our 'sex shops' aren't made of glass. :woohoo: My parents would kill me if they saw me in there, but these days, most women aren't afraid of going in anymore.
I would agree that waiting until 12-13 for sex ed seems a bit late. Over here, we generally get 3 teen pregnancies minimum per school year, with the mothers-to-be ranging from year 8 to year 12 (about age 12 to age 17).
Upon closer inspection, scootiebee, I have noticed that your daughter's eyes and eyebrows seem to be similar to her father's, whereas her nose and smile seem to be similar to yours. That's just what I see anyway.
My brother takes after my dad *really* badly - If you take out baby photos of them both, you can only tell who's who by the fact that one's in black and white. The strange thing with my brother and I, though, is that although we take after our same-sex parent for looks, we seem to have gained the opposite-sex parent's food tastes, which are really distinct.
Maybe it's just coincidence, but I find it very strange how I and my father feel very strongly opposed to foods that my mother and brother will happily eat, and vice versa.

I can't imagine having become pregnant at 12! Ugh! Maybe these kids should have had a talk with their own parents about this before then! Lucy understood where babies come from for years, and she is 9! She doesn't completely get the mechanics of it, but she has an age-appropriate understanding of it. Eeps! I can't imagine not telling my child anything about it. What do they say when their 4-year-old asks where babies come from? Do they really tell them the stork brings them? Or they come from the hospital?
My sister does sex research for a living, and she interviewed a bunch of kids about where babies come from for a popular TV show here, and got such answers as \"from the doctor\". When asked where the doctor gets the baby from, the kid said \"from the babysitter!\" Okay! I see the problem. Very scary!

..It wasn't a totally crazy idea. But it did leave me with a hatred of having my tummy button touched at all, even to this day. I think it's a sensitive area anyway for most people.
There was a pretty big news story a while back here, where an..It was either 11 or 13 year old..Became a father. I think that people having kids before the age of 18 will always be too young..After year 11 here, you notice a huge change in the behaviours of the people who choose to stay on in education. In year 10, everyone still messes around etc..But come year 11 when the first serious exams appear, people change and grow up - The ones who don't change (who continue to play truant and smoke outside instead of go to class) generally get very bad results and end up dropping out at 16, remaining in that childlike frame of mind for a lifetime.
It's not healthy for a child to have people like that as 'mummy and daddy'..It'll only result in an imitation of that kind of behaviour and there'll just be a family there which will never get into higher education etc.
