Sweets
She brought something new back too - It's a very strange 'cake'..There are three layers. The two outer layers are hard and like an astronaut version of 'peanut candy' (really light and airy). The middle layer..Hmm..It's like a crumbly, nutty, paste-like substance. All three layers are joined together with a teeny layer of cream in between.

ah, that sounds so yummy!
@ Morgana: could you write up the peanut butter cookies recipe? I'd like to try it out!
I agree about the cheesecake... that's probably my favourite dessert. I never want to learn how to make it though, because I'd be as big as a house within a month!
Here's my recipe for peanut butter cookies. It makes about 3 dozen, and they do freeze well. You can use either smooth or crunchy peanut butter, either one will work.
1/2 cup shortning
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown suger
1 whole egg
1 1/4 cups white flour (add a bit extra if the dough seems too sticky)
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Mix the shortning and peanut butter together, then add both sugars and the egg, and mix well. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients together, then add to the sugar/PB mix. Roll the dough into balls about 1 inch in diameter, place on a greased* cookie sheet, and flatten slightly with the back of a spoon. They will spread out a bit, so leave room otherwise they'll stick together.
Bake at 350 degress Fahrenheit for about 10-12 minutes. They will burn easily because of all the sugar, so watch them closely when they're in the oven. Let them cool on the cookie sheet for a couple of minutes before trying to pick them up.
*You can either grease the cookie sheet, or place a sheet of parchment paper on it... either way will work.
They're pretty easy to make... let me know if you try them.

I had to google what \"shortning\" is, I assume that it is solid vegetable fat? :silly:
350°F is 177°C... now I only have to buy the peanut butter... :silly:
Is it important to put so much sugar or can I put less?
