To see a world in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

The media doesn't have enough stories so they fill up the pages with these end of the world theories and other junk.
If the world is coming to an end, then only the world as we know it now, not in form of a literal apocalypse with the planet falling apart...

I agree, Black_Magnolia...the media is full of crap and If the world should suddenly end (which is highly improbable unless a comet hits us or a black hole swallows us) I wouldn't feel sorry for it...I get depressed when seeing what we have made of our once lovely environment...or maybe I'm too depressed because I so miss the sight of trees, of grass, of flowers...of clean rivers...

I think the Nicholas Cage movie is out already, I seem to recall seeing the trailer for it last fall. It holds absolutely no interest for me though, as I'm really not a fan of action movies.
That's interesting about the Mayan 2012 having already happened... in that case we really don't need to worry!
I think a lot of this is media hype, just like the recession has been. Everyone is so hyper-connected now, and checking for updates on the news every few minutes, instead of once a day, or once a week, that it makes things seem much more urgent than they maybe really are.

And the 24-hour-a-day news channels have to fill all that time up with something! Why not apocalypse? Maybe they are trying to cheer up everyone who lost all their money in the economic down turn?
