I am extra-medium. Usually medium, but in some goth clothes I need large (for some reason they think goths are bean-poles with no curves). I bought a shirt today and had to get large, but it has a corset design that I can tighten the waist in, which usually works for me.

The Japanese gothic lolita dresses, like from Retroscope, are sized really weird. I got a size medium skirt from the website, and the tag in the actual skirt is xxl, and says it fits U.S. Size 14! NOT! I guess in Japan I might be an xxl, but in the U.S. I am a very average size (usually 6-8), and the skirt fits perfectly. Just follow the measurements, and ignore all the s-m-l stuff. Contact the website before you buy and confirm what measurements the garment is sized to fit, not a size number like \"9\", but \"32 inch waist\" or 36 inch chest. This works for men too. Most sites are very happy to provide this information because they are more likely to make a sale after giving it!

Good luck.

You are correct for the sizes from Retroscope...I usually wear a xl in shirts and coats due to my arm length being 6'3 is sometimes a pain and with their sizing I wear a medium or large and still have room to grow.

I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity

I agree. My husband is 6'3\" also, but he has orangutan arms, so often for dress clothes I have to have them altered for him. I haven't bought him any of the clothes from Retroscope, so I am not sure how he measures up in them (he prefers to be slouchy in a t-shirt while I am in my frilly finery, so that's fine with me). I don't think I could pay him to dress up every day, while I wish I had a reason to dress up every day!

Nothing to see here, move along folks.

Lolita dresses are usually made for Asian bodies which are a much smaller build, hence why sizes for Western people appear to be 'XXL' etc.

To be fair, these days I actually find it more and more common for lolita dress suppliers to be supplying larger sizes only now. I guess they see a good market in the West..I was devastated when one dress I wanted to buy was only avaiable for people with a 37\" bust and 33\" waist and above. :(

I also wanna dress up nicely everyday... but having nothing to do atm, I'm mostly just home alone, and what to do then? I'd love to get makeup on, but the worst part is taking it off... can wear a corset from time to time tho, just for the fun of it B)

My beauty is not the shape of the body,
but the voices in you mind;
the thoughts you can't live without
