It means \"occurring after death\". Like when a solider does something brave, and gets killed, but still gets a medal for it after they've died. Or a writer who isn't really famous in their own lifetime, but then their works get discovered and popularized after their death.

IT OCCURRED TO ME THAT I HAD NOT PROPERLY THANKED YOU FOR WELCOMING ME INTO THE GROUP AROUND HERE....
WASN'T TRYING TO BE RUDE, JUST THINK I WAS A LITTLE TIMID ABOUT MAKING CONVERSATION WITH PPL (KINDA A WALLFLOWER (A 6 FOOT 3, 265 POUND WALLFLOWER, but anyway)
