I wasn't over-struck on the Fall of the House of Usher. Perhaps because it's built up to be one of his best. But I found is a bit slow-burning; the scary stuff only starts up towards the end and it's over too soon.

I find most of Poe's work to be that way, but I think it's because of the time when it was written (Lovecraft strikes me the same way). It's atmospheric and creepy, but not \"scary\" by today's standards. I guess maybe people were easier to scare then... as Lisa said to Bart!

I do like Poe though. It's hard for me to pick a favourite, but a couple that I like are The Masque of the Red Death, and The Cask of Amontillado. I saw Cask performed as a play once, along with Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven, it made for a very interesting evening.

The Cask of Amontillado. Buried Alive! Ugh. I am still claustrophobic from reading it many years ago.

Nothing to see here, move along folks.
