Guy Fawkes Night
where did ROCK -A-BYE- BABY come from????
a baby in a cradle up in a tree (who put it up there ? Where are the parents?)
and when the wind blows, the baby plummets to the ground....

Well, I Googled it out this is what i found:
Rock-a-bye-baby On the treetop
When the wind blows,
The cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks,
The cradle will fall
And down will come baby
Cradle and all
The author of this well-loved lullaby was reportedly a pilgrim who sailed on the Mayflower. The Wampanoag Indians, who befriended the colonists, carried their infants in cradleboards on their backs. In temperate weather, they suspended the cradles from tree limbs so that passing breezes could rock the babies while their mothers tended the maize and beans. With typical motherly indulgence, the cradles were decorated with shells, beads and porcupine quills. For sober-minded puritans, the sight of a birch tree festooned with such cradles must have been very memorable indeed.

...so it's kind of a racial slur

I didn't even realize what today was. lol It's not really celebrated where I am.
@ Envy
Yes, nursery rhymes traumatized me too. Oranges and Lemons was my least favorite.
\"Oranges and lemons\" say the bells of St. Clement's
\"You owe me five farthings\" say the bells of St. Martin's
\"When will you pay me?\" say the bells of Old Bailey
\"When I grow rich\" say the bells of Shoreditch
\"When will that be?\" say the bells of Stepney
\"I do not know\" say the great bells of Bow
\"Here comes a candle to light you to bed
And here comes a chopper to chop off your head!”
Always pay back any money owed or the bells are going to get psycho and kill ya.
Oh! That one's an exception! We all knew all the words to that one because we loved to do that thing in the playground where two people make an arch and all your friends go through the middle..And then eventually someone gets their head chopped off! :woohoo: We were aggressive little children. Haha!
