Here are some roses for the ladies of the forum, hope you all have a wonderful day! :)

To see a world in a Grain of Sand,
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

Not to go into too much detail, it's a day for a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.
Here in Croatia it's a very big day, as in most former/present socialistic countries as the day itself started as a political event but blended into to the culture of many countries...
On this day it is customary for men to give the women in their lives - mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues etc - flowers.
It may remind people of Valentine's day but it doesn't have such a big commercial feel to it.
I observed that here in Croatia guys have less problems buying flowers for Woman's day then for Valentine's day. It's really more of a cultural thing. I don't see old man (like 60+ years) walking around with flowers for their ladies on Valentine's day, but I saw a lot of them today - and I really find it cute. :)
I rather get flowers because someone respects me as a woman then because he needs to buy me something to prove his love; just a bit of a far fetched comparison between Woman's and Valentine's day.

I never get flowers (unless it is alive and still growing). My husband knows how silly I think they are to get cut flowers. I would rather have something to plant in the garden, or a live plant for the house. But I like having a day for women. I guess I celebrated by shopping in several woman-owned businesses, and buying some new skirts. I bought two shirts, but have to exchange them as they are too small. :(

Nothing to see here, move along folks.

Eep! I haven't bought a new skirt in so long..

I have a very bad habit of buying too many skirts and not enough tops. Too many shoes too.

I also prefer being given live things. :P I've already stated my dislike for things that will eventually wilt and die on another thread somewhere..

^.^ I shall remember International Women's Day next year. Funnily enough, I was pretty disrespected yesterday - I was just walking up some stairs and a 'gangster' decided it'd be funny to pat me on the head. The cheek of it. He was two years younger as well..Just taller.

Thanks for the roses, they're lovely!

It's not really a gift-giving day here in Canada. There are some events, mainly held by the women's shelters who deal with the brunt of the violence and discrimination faced by women. I think there may be some marches/parades in some of the bigger cities, but otherwise it's pretty low-key.
