That's the only reason I play as well. We also have a thing every Thursday called Gateway, which I always attend (when nothing else comes between) and I'm pretty much the only regular girl there. The people are different from time to time, as it's made for new and casual players, but there are a few regulars like myself that I've become good friends with. Even the Gatekeeper is a close friend


I've lately helped a friend move, said Gatekeeper, and he has thousands of cards... now he's selling off most of them, and I've helped him sort them all (more or less) and because of it I've gotten a few very good cards, many rares, because I've been so helpful :blush:
Until now I haven't been that good, either at playing or building, but by now I've learned a lot, and I usually win or at least play a game I'm proud of. Which makes the game even more interesting, and I might start buying cards again... when I get any money to spend that is :pinch:

I probably mentioned before - I just collect for the artwork. There's only my brother to play against anyway, and he has so many other games to choose from that it's not common.

I've spent a lot on new decks over the summer. :S Real drain on cash.

What's annoying is that even if I wanted to go to tournaments/friendly games, the place where they were held has since gone out of business due to the recession. It was the largest card store/tournament-holder in the East Midlands I seem to recall..Something like that anyway. I know it's affected a lot of players as it was basically *the* location for tournaments and friendlies.

Ouch, gotta hurt to loose that place. Can't imagine what would happen here if our such place would close up... it litterally is the only place to buy cards of all kinds and boardgames and I don't know what else. All tournaments are held there, and it's in the top 10 with getting new people to join Magic, I think. Helped a friend write an article about it :blush:

All those I know that play Magic I've gotten through that place, and even tho I got many of them now, who play real tournaments and even judge them, it would still suck if they'd close. Not that I think it'll ever happen... too many regulars, like myself, even tho I don't spend much gold there (rather buy a new xbox-game, as I'm not nearly as good as my friends at Magic Still fun to play, but not gonna go spend a lot of money on something in which I tend to always loose anyway), and there's even been talk about them expanding :silly:
Hopefully they do soon... then maybe I'll be able to get a job there

Yeah, it's a real bummer as it was the only place which solely sold gaming gards..They had all the up-to-date promotional information, tournament information, sold singles, advised you and everything..

There are only two places left in my city (that I know of) that sell cards and that's Forbidden Planet and Dominoes..But they're not so specialised and only sell decks, and even at that, their selections are preeetty minimal.

On Saturday I bought myself a Magic booster deck, I don't play (no one else around my area plays and I don't go out enough to fund out when there's a meet on), but I do adore the artwork.

I'm the same..I'm generally just a collector for the artwork, as I know only 3 people who could play against me and 2/3 of them don't live very close. My brother also always loses to me regardless of what game we're playing so it's not much of a challenge.

When Phoenix Games (shop that just closed down) was still open, even then I didn't really dare to go along as I'm a newbie and everyone there is super-knowledgeable and super-fast at playing (only went once to the tournament area upstairs during daytime hours to check the place out). My brother's friend went there to play a different card game and when I went against him at home (when he was about 10 and I was about..15), I was completely lost at his speed. :pinch:
