Well. From around 5 to 11 years old we attend primary school (which goes reception class then year 1, year 2, year 3... all the way to year 6), then after that we go to secondary school. In Harry Potter that would be like First Year through to Fifth Year but we just keep counting from primary school, so first year is year 7, and we stay till we're 16, in year 11. Making sense?
After this you don't legally need to continue education, but I've gone to college which is the next step up from secondary school. I'm in my second and final year here then I'll be going to university. Which, if I take the course I'm aiming for, will take another 7 years!
