Vegetarianism

I'm not a vegetarian myself (actually probably more of a carnivore than even an omnivore) but my best friend is. It's actually been a very enlightening experience as a chef since she is more then happy to talk about vegetarian diets without trying to push her views on me. Like most restricted diets, vegetarian foods offered in restaraunts generally tend to have little thought put into them and are commonly quite tasteless. So we've been working to come up with a number of recipes that I find to be tasty to even those of the meat eating sect. It's actually been a fun experiment.

That's quite a good idea. I do agree that restaurants often put a vegetarian option 'for the sake of it' and therefore it hasn't had much thought. I used to hang around with a whole group of people who were vegetarians due to their religion and getting school meals for them was awful. They were reduced to eating pasta every day unless they brought something from home.

The 'Simpsons' episode where Lisa Simpson wants a veggie option at school and is given a hotdog without the sausage also comes to mind. :woohoo:

haha I would also describe myself more as a carnivore then omnivore. :silly:

I also noticed this lack of tasty vegetarian foods in restaurants, cafeterias etc. I tried some of the vegie dishes in the cafeteria and they sometimes are fine, but I avoid them in a big loop if I see there is a soya stake or any form of soy, because they don't how to prepare soy. If it isn't soy then they put some cheese substitute. :S They don't know of tofu, seitan or other protein substitutes in the cafeteria...
I had to cook vegetarian for my sister while she was going through her vegie faze, and she is so picky about foods so I really had to think a lot how to cook... She was very satisfied with the vegie dishes I made, but couldn't resist when I made roast pork.

I found that vegetarian diets are more like salads or side dishes for me. The true meal is meat. Veal, pork, what ever. As long as it once was mammal and now it is no more. I know horse meat is a taboo. I ate it. And quite frankly enjoyed it. A lot. All that muscle tissue. Mmmmmmmm. And might indulge you all with a part of some ancient wisdom? Until I eat a lion, the pig is the king of animals to me.

Sure if cows were carnivorous and discovered gunpowder before us, hell yeah, I'd be scared. But the fact is, farm animals are BRED to serve man's feeding needs.

Who said horse meat is a taboo? I have a horse meat specialised butcher in my hometown. Horse meat is yumy, I agree with you.

Oh, a lot of people say the same thing.
