Sorry to hear that, hope it is okay. I have had some strange things on xray that turned out to be not a big problem.

Now I'm on a waiting list to see a specialist, because my dentist has \"never seen THAT on an x-ray before\". Not the words you want to hear! urgh...

>.< Eep!

My parents and friends have actually had doctors not knowing what they have quite often. English doctors don't seem to be the best..

A friend of mine who's allergic to codeine and would die if she took any was about to be given tablets with codeine in and they had been approved for her by 2 doctors, a pharmacist and a nurse. It took her dad to notice that the tablets weren't compatible with her current medication nor her condition. If it wasn't for him at the last minute, she'd be dead. The doctors also repeatedly told her in the early stages that she just had a cold which was leading to headaches, when in actual fact, she had high pressure in her spinal fluid which was putting pressure on her brain.

Another friend of mine fell ill and resorted to going to Ukraine to see doctors there. They diagnosed her condition instantly, whereas the English doctors had no idea what she had and didn't offer her much help. She also nearly died because of her condition.

I don't seem to have much luck with the medical profession overall. Seems to me that doctors are great if you have a broken bone that needs to be set, or a wound that needs stitches, or something like that. But for pretty much anything else, I think they're almost as clueless as the rest of us.

I just hope they call me soon... the waiting is really killing me! But I have no patience anyway, so that's not surprising.

Even in the U.S. where we have some of the most expensive medical care in the world, the doctors are sometimes baffled. I went to several different doctors and was diagnosed with temporal lobe seizures (which led to 3 EEG tests of brain waves), several blood diseases, and a few other things before I got so frustrated I went to a psychiatrist, and was immediately diagnosed bipolar. Well, that turned out to be correct. I don't have seizures, or blood disorders, just nuts, that's all.

A lot of times doctors will look for the simplest problem first, and try to eliminate that before moving on to something more rare or unusual. I have heard of medicine mix-ups before. My mom was given a medication she had a bad reaction to in the hospital, and the doctors refused to tell her what it was. She was very upset, and worried that she might get it again someday and not be in the hospital where they can correct the mistake. But that was 25 years ago, so she isn't as worried anymore, with so many newer drugs available now.

I have had bad reactions to vaccines my whole life, and get deathly ill for a few days whenever I need a tetanus booster shot (the original shot I got at 6 months old just about killed me, but that was the Pertussis part of the vaccine, which they have changed since then).

It's scary as you grow older..When I was young, all of my friends were just healthy. As I got older, more and more of them became diagnosed with things..One's developed narcolepsy, another, a fear of school..As I mentioned above, my two friends there became ill..One started to develop cysts which could turn cancerous..A few have gained back/nerve problems..One guy's on dialysis..

It worries me that 'I'll be next' or something. So far, I've only been into hospital to see my dermatologist and for my asthma..After seeing my friends go through stages where the doctors never found what's wrong with them, I just don't want to end up with something mysterious.

Wow, Envy, sounds mysterious. Being just college age, I figured your friends would mostly still be healthy. I am just getting to an age where a lot of my friends are developing health problems, and I am one of the youngest in my gang, and I am 35. I have friends (in their 40's) who are developing heart problems, and a lot of health issues, but luckily I am overall pretty physically healthy. I probably should be watching what I eat, but I am really bad about it sometimes. Most people I know are starting to have bad vision or hearing loss, or something related that is purely about getting older, though.
