Bonjour sister Corpsequeen,
Not exactly, Christmas means \"Day of birth\" we speak about the \"birth in general\" and not only the birth of Jesus.
In the culture before Chistians birth was a happy day. The pagan festival that the christians have tried to replace was the birth of the new year.
Mes hommages.

In Dutch there is the word 'Joel', which is connected with English 'Yule'. It is a bit archaic, though and only used by people practicing some form of neopaganism (although most neopagans use English terms, influenced by British and American Wiccan teaching).
Also, Noël doesn't have something to do with Christ persé. The old meaning of Yule was the symbolic rebirth of the world by fire (compared to myths like the phoenix). Jesus' birth may (warning, theory without any solid background or proof) even be an adaptation of Baldr's rebirth as the lord of the newly born world, which explains the reason Christ's birth has been rescheduled, so to say.
Also, if anyone wants to know: Father Noël, Santa Clause and even Sint Nicolaas, popular in the Netherlands and Belgium, are most probably derived from Odin. The same goes for St. Oswald, but that's a different story.

Meaning comes from within.

I like to think that he is, but I have no proof or facts to back it up.
Meaning comes from within.
