Agrippa In Chalisbury
The great occult philosopher, Cabalist and naturalist magi from Germany, and who was often outspoken against alchemists, visited England to meet with some of the notable scientists of the time. On 4 th November he travelled to Chalisbury and met with The Alchemist at the Cross Keys Inn, where they stayed until midnight.
The Wherwell Cockatrice
In the early 1500’s in the cellars of Wherwell priory, Hampshire, a cocks egg incubated by a toad hatched into a cockatrice, and when fully grown it flew about the cloisters in search of human meat. The monster was killed by a man called Green who lowered a mirror into its lair so the cockatrice would exhaust itself fighting its own reflection, and then ran it through with a spear. |
