Wyverex

Winged, legless dragon of immense power and ferocity, from medieval European lore. Feared by evildoers as a righteous and relentless defender of good. Believed in the medieval period by many alchemists to be their patron guardian, arbiter and Recording Angel.

From the evidence of the famous Zayin Bestiary, an original copy of which was formally kept in Chalisbury Library, the Wyverex Auctor was a unique, legendary, fabulous beast and was genetically related to the two-legged wyvern. The Auctor was the king, the great ancestor, the creator and the power of the Wyverex genus, and the latent denizen of the hermetic laboratory who assiduously watched over his
treasury of riches and the forlorn souls of fallen adepts.

From the early 14th century, the Wyverex
became the symbol and guardian spirit
for a radical sect of alchemists, who
believed him to be the earthly arbiter of
acolytic commitment, scrutinising their
every process and weighing each chant
and prayer in appraisal of their motives
while in search of the deeper alchemical
mysteries.

The subsequent Wyverex strain were the offspring of the Auctor, and often appeared with a black rose, representing perfection and the realization of the ultimate achievement, the Opus Magum. The Wyverex, guardian of the sacred, deeper truths and deceiver of the wanderers who stray from the straight path of commitment, would appear as a monumental spectral apparition to many of the great alchemists of medieval history as they approached their final revelation.

The Wyverex is the colour of the gold of the sun, representing regal light and the achievement of perfection, and purple endorsing its awesome ruling power and pervasive influence.
